About

Welcome to Studio Moon Tokki

Hello there! My name is Sephie of Studio Moon Tokki. I was a graphic designer by profession for over 7 years. I decided to leave my 8-5 office job and opted to work on myself for a bit.

My very first amigurumi creation: Tokki, circa January 2022.

After a few months of dedicating time to rest and regroup from constantly being in front of the computer, I stumbled upon the craft of crochet which was also an old hobby that I learned back when I was in Primary school. From then came the first time I have ever crocheted a toy (which is also called “amigurumi”). I named her “Tokki” which means “Rabbit” in Korean after the pink rabbit I drew for myself back when I was a kid.

I got hooked (no pun intended) on the craft of crochet and made Tokki & Friends soon after. Each one of them has a distinct personality reminiscent of each of the four seasons; you can get to know each of them more over here. And after learning more about the craft, I fell head over heels in love with the endless things I could potentially create and have not stopped crafting ever since.

Though I now live in New Zealand, it’s still very rare (if I ever do) find items that reflect the kind of cuteness I was exposed to when I was younger and living in Asia; let alone cute handmade items. I took it upon myself to hone my crochet skills enough to experiment with a lot of varying goods ranging from amigurumi toys, to fashion accessories like bags, and even homeware that can easily be gifted to any loved one no matter what gender, age, or interest they have.

At first, I started with making gifts for all my friends for their milestone birthdays. Then slowly, people they know saw the gifts I made and requests just started to pile up. I spent a good chunk of my time crocheting physical items upon request, and even creating beginner-friendly to more advanced crochet patterns to help share my love for all things cute and kawaii to everyone who may share the same interests I do. I’m aiming to be the go-to place where you can find these cute handmade gifts in New Zealand as well as be able to spread the world of these cute, loveably, handmade items to people of all walks of life for every occasion under the sky.

As for my background in design, I never lost it. Being creative has always been in my system since I was young. It all just boils down to how I manage to channel my creativity that can also leave me feeling fulfilled at the end of the day that makes the cherry on top of my ideal sundae.

From planning, illustrating, designing, layouts, photography, editing, video production, animation, you name it! I’ve managed to learn more than I expected from wearing so many hats, yet there is always room to learn even more things if the fates allow. So in case you’re curious to see some of the stuff I managed to churn up all those years, feel free to have a nosey over here at my online portfolio.

Nowadays, I still get to apply everything I’ve learned onto everything I do for Studio Moon Tokki, so I can never say it was a complete career change for me. Getting to do what I do at Studio Moon Tokki was just a blessing and a privilege I am grateful for everyday.

“Aspire to Inspire before you Expire”

What I've wanted to do with Studio Moon Tokki is to show people that no matter how old or young you are, it's never too late to follow your dreams. It's scary to leave your source of comfort, but sometimes, it's what's right for you in the long run. Everyday is an adventure, indeed. And no matter what stage in life you're currently in, you should never forget your inner child, and you should always strive to be the kind of person your younger self would be proud to grow up to be like.
